It's common to feel down and sad during the cold, winter months.  Night comes on quicker and the weather is colder, so you are spending more time inside. Some people experience (SAD), seasonal affective disorder, a type of depression which can be triggered by the winter season.

While some may need to seek professional help, lifestyle changes can be helpful in less serious cases.  Everyone experiences the winter blues every now and then.

Keeping active can help.  While it's harder to get out and hit the gym, exercise is a great mood booster.  Getting outside and doing winter activities can boost your spirits as well as yoga and meditation. Just getting outside and moving for a half an hour a day can help you get your Vitamin D and be uplifting.

Lighten up your home.  Put on cheery lights and chase away the gloom.  You can even buy lights that mimic natural light.

Count your blessings.  Take stock of all the good things in your life.  You can rewire how you think by focusing on positive thoughts every day.

You may be homebound more so take advantage of those quiet days.  Stoke up the fire, take out those board games or watch a favorite movie.  It's always nice to kickback and relax.

It's a great time of year to start a hobby or craft or a new project you've been meaning to do.

Host an evening get together or dinner for friends while everyone has more time to enjoy each other's company.

Talk to family and friends about how you are feeling.  Depression is serious. Seek help if you can't seem to find joy in your everyday activities.

Turn your winter blues into a season of replenish and rejuvenation.
